Women’s Care Florida provides comprehensive cervical cancer screening for women of all ages.
Cervical cancer screening is a test to identify changes in the cells of the cervix that may lead to cancer. The Pap smear test and HPV test are two types of screening tests that help prevent or find cervical cancer early. The Pap test looks for precancerous cells on the cervix and the HPV test screens for the human papillomavirus that can cause abnormal cells to form on the cervix. If you are receiving a Pap test, the cells are checked to see if they appear normal and the HPV test will test the cells to see if HPV is present. The cells are sent to a laboratory for further testing.
Women’s Care Florida follows the current cervical cancer screening guidelines for low-risk women:
Test results can take up to three weeks to come in. If you have a history of cervical cancer, HIV, a weakened immune system, or abnormal screening results, you may need an additional screening test. It is important to follow-up with your provider to understand next steps in terms of treatment, depending on your unique situation.
