Preconception & Prenatal Health Visits

Planning for your prenatal and preconception care benefits both you and your baby. Preconception care helps build good health, proper nutrition, and healthy behaviors before you conceive to increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy. Regular prenatal care during your pregnancy provides numerous benefits for expectant mothers, ensuring you are less likely to deliver prematurely or have other serious problems related to pregnancy. Our team of experts will work with you to evaluate your health during your visits and determine any issues that could potentially affect you and your baby.

Before Pregnancy

If you are thinking about having a baby, the best thing you can do is plan ahead. Having a healthy baby starts before you get pregnant it is important to start making healthy choices now. Schedule an appointment with one of our providers for a preconception visit to make sure you increase your chances of a healthy pregnancy. Our providers will help you develop new healthy habits, including maintaining your weight and lifestyle changes to make before you conceive.

Prenatal Visits

Prenatal visits allow your doctor to monitor your health, the progress of the pregnancy, and identify any potential problems. Throughout your pregnancy, you will see your doctor on a regular basis. These visits provide an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns and learn more about your pregnancy. If your pregnancy is high risk, your doctor will most likely see you more often. A typical schedule for prenatal visits is:

  • Weeks 4 to 28: 1 visit per month
  • Weeks 28 to 36: 2 visits per month
  • Weeks 36 to birth: 1 visit per week

Childbirth Classes

Women’s Care offers childbirth education classes to help expectant parents to learn what happens during labor and birth and how to prepare for it. These classes often meet over the course of a few weeks or months. Our childbirth education classes involve helping our patients create a birth plan to discuss delivery options, support in the delivery room, and pain medications. If you do create a birth plan, be sure to share and discuss it with your obstetrician in advance of your delivery.
