Postpartum Care in Florida

Women’s Care provides comprehensive and compassionate postpartum care for women following pregnancy.

Postpartum Follow-Up Visit

Women’s Care offers postpartum follow-up visits for women six weeks after delivery. During your visit, your provider will answer your questions and address any concerns you may have about breastfeeding, weight loss, sex after pregnancy, your emotional and physical health, and how you are adjusting to your life with your new baby. Based on your symptoms and concerns after pregnancy, we’ll create a postpartum treatment plan to help treat and manage the following conditions.

Postpartum Bleeding

It is extremely normal to experience vaginal bleeding and discharge after you’ve given birth. Postpartum bleeding, also known as lochia, is when your body sheds the blood and tissue that lined your uterus. Bleeding will be the heaviest for the first few days and may have a few small clots. After 10-14 days, the flow will get lighter and eventually stop. Use sanitary pads instead of tampons until the vaginal discharge goes away.

Postpartum Depression

Many new mothers experience the “baby blues” during the first days or weeks after delivery. For some women, new motherhood brings with it more intense feelings or postpartum depression. You may have postpartum depression if you are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Anxiety
  • Crying
  • Fatigue/exhaustion
  • Feelings of guilt
  • Hopelessness
  • Irritability
  • Impatience
  • Mood swings
  • Oversleeping
  • Restlessness
  • Sadness
  • Trouble bonding
