Women’s Care offers non-surgical permanent sterilization to patients in our convenient and comfortable offices.
Female sterilization is a permanent procedure to prevent a pregnancy from occuring, which works by blocking the fallopian tubes. Our board-certified physicians perform the procedure in-office using the safest and most effective methods, so you can be confident in the care you receive. We will work with you to determine whether or not permanent sterilization is right for you based on your desire to have children in the future.
Permanent sterilization is suitable for women who are certain that they will not want children (or will not want more children) in the future. If you are unsure about your wishes for the future of your family, there are other forms of long-lasting contraception that are both effective and reversible.
Permanent sterilization at Women’s Care is a nonsurgical procedure, and does not require any incisions or general anesthesia. It involves the insertion of two small metal coils into each of the fallopian tubes through the vagina and cervix. Eventually, scar tissue forms around the coils and blocks the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy.
Patients will be able to resume normal activities as early as the same day of the procedure. During the three months following the procedure, your body and the inserts work together to form a natural barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg. During this period, you must continue using another form of birth control (other than an IUD). At the end of three months, you will be tested by your provider to see if the scar tissue has fully blocked the fallopian tubes. At this point, you can discontinue your use of additional birth control methods.
