Women’s Care offers cryosurgery of the cervix for patients in a comfortable office setting.
The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that is at the top of the vagina. Cryosurgery destroys and removes abnormal cells on the cervix using a freezing gas. Once the abnormal cells are removed the body grows new and healthy cells. The procedure is performed by our board-certified physicians in a minimally invasive manner using the most advanced technology. Our goal is to ensure that you receive the highest quality care and that your individualized needs are met.
You may be a good candidate for cryosurgery if your colposcopy or Pap smear test results come back abnormal. If there are abnormal cells on your cervix this may mean you have dysplasia, chronic cervicitis, or warts (HPV).
During the procedure, a speculum is inserted into the vagina to view the cervix. Your provider uses a thin tube to freeze the abnormal tissue, creating a ball of ice. This part of the procedure may need to be repeated several times if necessary to remove all of the tissue. The procedure is performed in-office and generally takes about 10 minutes. You may experience some slight discomfort and cramping that subsides after the procedure is over.
